TopStar & Zambian Premier League Announce Landmark $5 Million Broadcasting Agreement

Zambian football has entered a new era following the signing of a historic five-year, US$5 million broadcast partnership between the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) and TopStar Communications.
Speaking at the launch, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana described the agreement as unprecedented, noting that TopStar has committed K960,000 for the ZPL Awards and pledged to broadcast all nine MTN Super League matches every weekend.
He added that the inclusion of local production teams would create jobs and stimulate growth in the broadcasting sector.
Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe said the partnership would expand opportunities for clubs and players, while FAZ President Keith Mweemba called it a milestone in the league’s professionalisation drive, with matches set to be aired locally and internationally across multiple platforms.
ZPL CEO Joseph Chimpampwe hailed the deal as a “new era for football broadcasting in Zambia,” pointing to expanded fan access and new commercialization opportunities.
TopStar Co-Board Chairperson Jacqueline Chishimba reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to local content, announcing that two channels have been dedicated to live coverage of all nine weekend matches and urging businesses to take advantage of affordable advertising opportunities.
Other stakeholders, including Sun Sports, ZNBC, and the Chinese Embassy, welcomed the partnership, describing it as a boost to both the sports and media industries.
