The Zambian Premier League has taken decisive action by immediately suspending Zesco United Football Club from all league activities.
This bold move comes in the wake of an ongoing court case, where the club served the league with a summons regarding a football-related dispute. The suspension underscores the league’s firm commitment to upholding the integrity and internal governance of Zambian football.
In an official statement, ZPL Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chimpampwe made it clear that the decision stems from a direct breach of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) statutes.
He stressed that FAZ regulations strictly require all disputes to be handled through established internal mechanisms rather than being taken to the courts. Despite receiving multiple warnings, Zesco United chose to pursue legal action, which has now triggered these firm consequences.
The suspension will remain in place until the court matter is completely resolved. In the meantime, all fixtures involving Zesco United have been placed on hold, ensuring the league calendar continues without disruption.
