Senegal Appeals CAF Ruling Stripping Them of 2025 AFCON Crown

The Senegalese Football Federation has strongly condemned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board’s decision to strip Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, which was awarded 58 days after the team defeated Morocco 1-0 in the final.

Describing the ruling as unjust, unprecedented, and unacceptable, the federation announced it will file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne to challenge the outcome and defend Senegalese football’s interests.

The Senegalese Government echoed this dismay, asserting that the decision undermines core principles of sporting ethics and pledging to pursue all available international judicial avenues to restore the primacy of on-field results.

Both the federation and government have called for an independent international investigation into potential corruption within CAF’s governing bodies, amid widespread criticism of the appeal board’s application of regulations that declared Senegal to have forfeited the match resulting in a 3-0 default victory for Morocco following a brief player walk-off protest during the game.
