Jonathan Kalimina Set To Attend Pre-Season With Red Bull Salzburg
Zambia U17 National Team captain Jonathan Kalimina is set to attend pre-season with Austrian Bundesliga giants Red Bull Salzburg as he continues his path towards European football.
The highly rated defender is expected to leave for Wals-Siezenheim over the weekend, where he will join Die Roten Bullen for their pre-season preparations before returning home to continue his development with Kafue Celtic.
Red Bull Salzburg secured Kalimina’s signature in January, with the teenager expected to officially join the Austrian side in January 2027 when he turns 18. In early March, the young defender also started German lessons as part of his preparations for life in Austria.
Kalimina is expected to sign a long-term deal with Salzburg, a club widely known for developing young players and helping them transition into senior European football.
The defender attracted international attention after captaining Zambia’s U17 national team during their historic run at the 2024 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where Zambia reached the knockout stages for the first time. His leadership and commanding performances reportedly attracted interest from several European clubs before Salzburg won the race for his signature.
Kalimina follows a familiar pathway taken by Zambian internationals such as Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu, who both used Salzburg as a springboard to bigger European football opportunities.
