The club officially announced the appointment of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner via social media, expressing pride in welcoming the legendary figure to their technical team.
Randburg AFC, described as one of the country’s largest and best amateur clubs, competes in the U15 Gauteng Development League. In their announcement, the club highlighted Mbesuma’s storied playing career, noting his record 35-goal season with Kaizer Chiefs, his stint in the English Premier League with Portsmouth, and his pivotal role in Zambia’s historic 2012 AFCON triumph.
He is also celebrated as one of only five players to have scored over 100 goals in the Premier Soccer League.
The 41-year-old’s remarkable scoring prowess was demonstrated across numerous South African clubs, including Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Moroka Swallows. His most prolific period came during the 2004/05 season with Kaizer Chiefs, where he set records for the most goals in a season (25) and the most in a calendar year (35).
Beyond South Africa, Mbesuma also had a brief European career, featuring for clubs in Portugal, Turkey, and England.
In his new position as strikers coach, Mbesuma will initially work with Randburg AFC’s Gauteng Development League and Castle League teams before extending his expertise to the club’s younger age groups. He will also be available for private sessions.
The club has conveyed great anticipation for the impact his experience and knowledge will have on their players, warmly welcoming him into the RAFC family.
