Death of Anita Chomba Mourned by ZPL Community

The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) is deeply saddened to confirm the tragic passing of Annita Chomba, a 15-year-old female footballer, who collapsed during a Women National League match in Kabwe.

Annita was a Green Buffaloes Women Football Club goalkeeper, who was on loan to Locus Women Football Club at the time of her passing .

The incident occurred during a fixture between Locus Women Football Club and Kabwe Warriors Women Football Club, where Annita collapsed after rushing from the bench onto the pitch to celebrate a goal. She was immediately attended to and rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention. Sadly, despite all efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead.

The ZPL extends its deepest condolences to the Chomba family, her teammates, the technical staff, and the entire football fraternity during this painful and difficult time. The loss of such a young and promising life is heartbreaking and has left the football community in shock.

The League is engaging relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Further communication will be provided as more information becomes available.

The Zambian Premier League calls on the football family and the public to respect the privacy of the bereaved family as they mourn their loved one.
