Zambia Withdraws Under-20 Team from Four Nations Tournament in Malawi

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has confirmed that Zambia has withdrawn its under-20 team from participating in this week’s Four Nations tournament set to take place in Malawi. Initially, Zambia was slated to field both a senior team and an under-20 team in the tournament, but they will now only send the senior team.

As a result of Zambia’s withdrawal, the under-20 competition format has changed from knockout to round-robin, with three teams, namely Kenya, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, participating. The tournament will kick off on Wednesday, March 20, 2023, instead of the previously announced date of Thursday, March 21, 2023. Additionally, the venue for the under-20 matches has been relocated from Bingu National Stadium to Silver Stadium.

The schedule for the senior national teams remains unchanged, with all four teams, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Kenya, available for the competition. In the seniors tournament, Zambia is set to play against Zimbabwe in the semi-final match. The teams are expected to arrive in Malawi tomorrow to commence the tournament.

With Zambia’s withdrawal from the under-20 category, the tournament dynamics have shifted, but the remaining teams are geared up to compete in both the under-20 and senior categories, promising an exciting display of football prowess in Malawi this weekend.
