Zambia U-20 Withdraws from Four National Tournaments

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has confirmed that Zambia’s Under-20 team has withdrawn from the Four Nations tournament set to take place in Lilongwe this week. The tournament, running alongside the senior tournament, will now feature three teams: Kenya, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.

No reason has been provided for Zambia’s withdrawal from the junior tournament. Consequently, the competition’s format has been adjusted from knockout to round-robin.
The tournament will now commence on Wednesday, March 20, instead of the previously scheduled Thursday, March 21, 2024. Additionally, the Under-20 matches have been relocated from Bingu National Stadium to Silver Stadium.

The schedule for the Senior National teams remains unchanged, with all four teams participating as initially announced. Zimbabwe’s Under-20 national team arrived in Lilongwe on Sunday, while Kenya is expected to arrive on Tuesday. Zimbabwe’s senior team will arrive in two groups, with the first expected to arrive on Monday afternoon and the last group on Tuesday. Zambia will arrive on Tuesday, and Kenya’s Harambe Stars will arrive on Thursday.

The fixtures for the Under-20 event are as follows:

Malawi vs. Zimbabwe: Wednesday, 20th March 2024
Kenya vs. Zimbabwe: Friday, 22nd March 2024
Malawi vs. Kenya: Sunday, 24th March 2024
