Yanga SC Signs Zambian Star Clatous Chota Chama

Yanga SC, the Tanzanian league champions, have officially welcomed Zambian international Clatous Chota Chama, also known as “Triple C.” The 33-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year contract with the possibility of extension, marking a significant move in his career.

Chama, who previously played for Yanga’s rivals, Simba SC, decided not to extend his contract with the club where he spent five years in two separate stints since 2018. During his time at Simba, Chama became one of the club’s most popular players, earning the nicknames “Triple C” in Zambia and “Mwamba Wa Lusaka” among Simba SC fans.

Now, Chama is set to compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League with Yanga SC, the 2023-2024 Tanzanian league winners. This move has elicited mixed reactions from fans. While some Simba SC supporters feel betrayed by his decision to join their rivals, others respect his pursuit of new opportunities. Chama, who has garnered over a million followers, remains a beloved figure, though some critics argue he prioritized financial gains over loyalty to Simba SC.

In addition to participating in the Champions League, Chama will reunite with his national teammate Kennedy Musonda, who joined Yanga SC two seasons ago. The duo is expected to bolster Yanga’s squad as they aim for success in both the domestic league and the CAF Champions League.

Yanga SC reportedly offered Chama a lucrative package, including US$150,000 (K3.9 million) in sign-on fees and a monthly salary of US$13,000 (K338,000). This generous offer underscores Yanga SC’s commitment to strengthening their team with top talent as they prepare for the upcoming season.
