Sports Minister Assures Golden Girls of Government Support Ahead of Hockey 5s World Cup
The Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, has reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the Zambia Women’s Hockey Team, known as the Golden Girls, ahead of their participation in the Hockey 5s World Cup in Oman later this month.
Hon. Nkandu emphasized the government’s dedication to promoting the growth of hockey and other sports in the country. He assured the team of the government’s support, aiming to provide a seamless and comfortable experience for them during their international campaign.
“As a Ministry, it is our responsibility to ensure your well-being and a comfortable stay wherever you go,” he stated. “In return, we ask for your commitment to discipline as you endeavor to represent our nation and bring joy to the hearts of Zambians.”
Encouraging the Golden Girls, Nkandu urged them to persevere, emphasizing that they carry the aspirations of every Zambian while participating in the Hockey 5s World Cup. The minister’s words aim to motivate and uplift the team as they prepare for the highly anticipated tournament.

The Golden Girls are currently undergoing intensive training at the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Center, gearing up for the Hockey 5s World Cup, scheduled to commence on January 17, 2024, in Oman.
