Solwezi Stadium Construction Delights NCC

A team from the National Council for Construction (NCC) in Lusaka has expressed satisfaction with the progress of works at Solwezi’s Independence Stadium. Led by NCC Executive Director Paul Makasa, the team conducted an inspection in response to social media reports alleging substandard construction at the stadium.

Professor Makasa noted that a comprehensive rehabilitation of the stadium would cost over $30 million, contrary to claims on social media that the $300,000 allocated by FIFA to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) was sufficient for the works.
He clarified that the FAZ’s budget was designated only for specific areas such as the playing surface, changing rooms, and terraces.

Professor Makasa praised the quality of the work done on the playing surface and other designated areas. However, he recommended minor improvements for the contractor, GNM Projects Limited, including maintenance and the installation of ramps to accommodate wheelchair users.

Solwezi’s Independence Stadium serves as the home ground for FAZ Super League side Kansanshi Dynamos. Recent reports on social media had raised concerns about the construction quality at the stadium.
