Grant anticipates a challenging match against Malawi
Chipolopolo Boys’ head coach, Avram Grant, anticipates a challenging match tomorrow as Zambia faces Malawi in the third and fourth-place playoffs. Zambia’s first game of the Four Nations Invitational tournament ended in a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe, followed by a 6-5 defeat in post-match penalties.
Grant emphasized that he does not view games as friendly, as both teams aim to win when they step onto the pitch. He highlighted the importance of building a winning mentality, which he believes the team demonstrated in the past year.
However, Zambia will be without Stophila Sunzu, who is based in China, for the upcoming match against Malawi. Grant described the game against Malawi as a tough one, considering the close proximity of the two countries.
Grant hinted at making changes to the squad for the Flames showdown, emphasizing the importance of continued learning for the team. He expressed satisfaction with their performance in the first game but acknowledged the costly mistakes that led to their defeat.
“This is the last time that we can try things that we didn’t do before—try new players and see if they are good for our team,” Grant said. “It is a learning game, so we want to learn; the next game against Malawi will be the same; we want to see things that will help us in the future.”
Zambia will face Malawi at the Bingu National Stadium, with a kick-off scheduled for 14:00 hours, while Zimbabwe will take on Kenya in the final at 17:00 hours.
