FIFA President Receives Evidence Regarding Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu

Godfrey Chitalu’s phenomenal record of 107 goals in a single season has now been brought to the attention of FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Kabwe Warriors Football Club continues to engage FIFA in recognizing the late striker’s achievements.

Chitalu scored these 107 goals during the 1972 season while playing for the Warriors. The club’s chairman, Mutale Ng’andu, seized the opportunity to advocate for Chitalu’s recognition when meeting Infantino.

Ng’andu presented a book titled Score of Goals In One Single Season, published by soccer historian Jerry Muchimba in 2014.

“He (Infantino) was happy to receive such a book, which could justify our claims,” Ng’andu said.

Chitalu’s 107 goals came from 60 league and cup matches. FIFA has recognized 79 of his goals for the national team, placing Chitalu among the top 10 highest scorers, just behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, among others.

Here is the breakdown of Chitalu’s 107 goals from the 1972 season across all matches (60):

  • Division One: 49
  • Charity Shield: 1
  • Henrich Chibuku Cup: 16
  • Castle Cup/Independence Cup/Mosi Cup: 15
  • Shell Challenge Cup: 9
  • African Club Championship Cup (CAF Champions League): 4
  • Friendlies: 6
  • International: 2
  • Exhibition matches (All Stars vs. The Rest and Copperbelt vs. Midlands): 5

Total: 107 Goals
