Fashion Sakala Contributes 500 Bags of Maize Meal to Kawele Village

Zambian striker Fashion Sakala, currently based in Saudi Arabia, has made a generous contribution to his hometown of Kawele by donating 500 bags of mealie meal.
Taking to social media, Sakala expressed concern about the impact of climate change on Kawele Village, the community where he was born and raised.
In his post, Sakala highlighted the challenges faced by the village due to climate change, affecting the lives of hardworking farmers and disrupting agricultural activities.
Unlike many Zambian footballers who come from urban areas, Sakala, at 26 years old, has roots in the rural Kawele village in Eastern Zambia.
Discovered through the Airtel Rising Star talent search program, he rose through the ranks, representing Zambia at the U17 and U20 levels, and eventually joining Nchanga Rangers in the Zambian Super League in 1998 before moving to Zanaco.
Sakala’s donation of 500 bags of Mealie Meal aims to address the hardships faced by the community, particularly in light of the challenges posed by climate change.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the village that shaped him and emphasized the importance of supporting communities in times of need.
Notably, Sakala’s football journey has taken him from Zambia to Spartak Moscow in Russia after an impressive showing at the 2016 Cosafa U20 tournament.
He later played for Belgium’s Oostende before joining Scottish side Rangers under the management of Steven Gerard. Six months ago, Sakala made a move to the Saudi Arabian Pro League, joining Al Fayha
